Baton Rouge – This morning, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 east of LA 3246 (Siegen Lane) in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 39-year-old Javier Alexander Alvarado-Espinosa of Baton Rouge.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Alvarado-Espinosa was driving a 2012 Honda Civic headed east in the left lane on Interstate 10.   For reasons still being investigated, Alvarado-Espinosa’s vehicle veered to the left, impacted the wall, and rolled-over several times.  Thereafter, the Civic was overturned in the inside shoulder.

Despite being properly restrained, Alvarado-Espinosa suffered fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Both passenger side occupants were properly restrained and sustained minor injuries.  The driver side rear passenger was unrestrained and sustained moderate injuries in the crash.  All passengers were transported to an area hospital for treatment.  As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted for scientific analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorist to always make good decisions while operating motor vehicles.  Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Always ensure every occupant is properly restrained and follow all traffic laws.  Taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.  Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.
