Lutcher man sentenced for aggravated arson

On April 5, 2022, Scott Chauvin of 1636 2nd St. Lutcher, LA, age 35, pled guilty as charged to Aggravated Arson. Chauvin was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Mohon, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr.
On August 16, 2021, St. James Parish Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Third St Lutcher. Fire Department officials requested the services of the Louisiana State Fire Marshall’s Office. Upon arrival investigators with the Fire Marshalls Office canvassed the scene and were able to identify the origin of the fire. Investigators obtained video surveillance footage from the area and were able to observe via video surveillance, a male subject starting the fire. Investigators identified the male subject as Scott Chauvin. A warrant of arrest was issued for Chauvin, who was subsequently arrested and booked into the St. James Parish Jail.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
On January 3, 2023, Chauvin was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
