Oscar – This morning, shortly after 10:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on US 190 east of LA 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the lives of 69-year-old Barbara Dobard Rigby and 98-year-old Maynette Dobard of Alexandria.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Rigby was driving a 2018 Lincoln MKX SUV headed east on US 190. For reasons still being investigated, Rigby exited the roadway to the right and struck the rear end of 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was parked on the eastbound shoulder with the emergency flashers on.
Despite being properly restrained, both occupants in the Lincoln SUV, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. There was a single occupant in the 18-wheeler’s sleeper cab, who did not sustain any injuries. As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Rigby and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
