LAPLACE — The St. Charles Catholic girls basketball team recently defeated Maurepas 37-24.
SCC senior Mya Brown, a member of the 1,000 points club, led in scoring with 26 points. Other contributors were Chavez Smith with five points and Katelyn Hebert, Amari Tassin and Makayla Penton with two points each.
Going into the game, head coach Jeff Vitrano thought the Comets were matched up well against Maurepas.
“They had a good game plan to double Brown, but our guards did a good job of using the dribble to pull the defense away, and we were able to get it to Mya down low,” he said.
The biggest improvement Vitrano noticed from the first practice was the girls’ ability to move defensively.
“We still have a lot of things to clean up moving forward, but overall, we had a lot of contribution from almost every player in the game. With so many young players, we need to gain more confidence every game, and I think this was a great game to get that experience and confidence,” Vitrano said.
