A Texas woman was killed Friday and a 3-year-old seriously injured Friday as the result of a head-on crash on Interstate 10 in Jeff Davis Parish.

The fatal crash happened around 6:45 p.m. on Interstate 10 near the Lacassine exit, according to State Police.

The crash claimed the life of Gay Dale Ferguson, 61, of Orange, Texas. Ferguson was the city clerk for Nederland, Texas.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Ford F-150 truck driven by Caleb Lee Bowers, 28, of Jennings was traveling east on I-10 when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the left side of the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the truck traveled through the median and vaulted over the cable barriers before entering the westbound lanes and striking Ferguson’s vehicle head-on.

Ferguson was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 3-year-old toddler in the vehicle was transported to a Lake Charles hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
