Update regarding neglect of dog in Vacherie

The St. James Sheriff’s Office was notified on Sunday via email and Facebook posts of a dog located in Vacherie which was chained to a post and appeared malnourished. A supervisor was dispatched to the residence and the owner of the dog was instructed to take it to a veterinarian immediately.
Monday morning, August 29, 2022, the Sheriff’s Office received the official report from the Veterinarian Hospital and the Sheriff’s Office was able to proceed with a criminal investigation. Terrence White, of Vacherie, the registered owner of the black lab, has been charged with R.S. 14:102.1 Cruelty to Animals. The black lab was seized and is currently at a shelter.
The name of the Veterinarian Hospital nor the name of the shelter the dog was taken was not released. SJSO had not received permission from either entity to release their name or location.
