The St. John Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division has been working with school administration at John L. Ory Communication Arts Magnet School in LaPlace to implement a new traffic plan for drop off and pick up of students.
Starting Monday, August 8, 2022, the car pool line will start in the westbound lane of West 5th Street; and Main Street will be utilized as overflow, if needed. No vehicles will be allowed to enter from the eastbound lane. All traffic exiting the school will turn out of the school yard and continue westbound. Eastbound of West 5th Street will remain open for normal convenience of the roadway.
Below is a map of the new JLO school drop off and pickup plan. The red line indicates the primary waiting line. The blue line indicates over flow if needed, and the green line is the exit route.
Drop off time in the morning is 8:10 a.m. , and pickup time is 3:40 p.m. It is very important that vehicles do NOT start parking on West 5th street until 20 minutes prior to drop off or pickup to not disrupting the normal traffic flow.
A new plan was necessary due to ongoing complaints about traffic on West Fifth Street near JLO.
