LAPLACE — After another unique school year, this time interrupted by Hurricane Ida, St. Charles Catholic is excited to announce its school year theme for 2022-2023:
“Don’t Look Back” – based on a scripture passage from Philipians 1:6.  The school year will begin with grade-level retreats on August 11, giving students the opportunity to spend time with one another and with God as they step into a new adventure.

As the educational and spiritual leader of the River Parishes, SCC maintains a well-balanced curriculum in an effort to meet the needs of all students.  We strive to develop the total student – spiritually, academically, physically and socially. A diverse student body currently attends St. Charles Catholic for its religious instruction, academics, athletics and community involvement.  Students come not only to nourish their minds but also to deepen their faith in preparation for becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

Faculty and students are continuing with our 1:1 program with Apple iPads for students in the eighth – 10th grades and Mac laptops for our juniors and seniors. Teachers are incorporating updated interactive panels and iPads into their daily instruction in the classroom to further the various benefits of using technology in their lessons.  SCC understands that technology is an ever-evolving part of the educational and professional landscape, and the Comets are learning to be problem solvers and innovators with their access to quality technology.

Faith strengthens and motivates the Comet Family in all aspects of life. Daily Religion classes and prayer in all class sessions encourage the spiritual development of students at SCC. Masses and liturgical services are held often, including Reconciliation Services, Living Rosaries, Living Stations of the Cross, and more.

The academic development of the student is accomplished through three programs of study – an Honors program (including Advanced Placement courses in Literature and Language Arts, Civics, American History, French, and Language and Composition); an academic program; and a standard program. Students are assigned to a program based on their individual academic abilities and on the results of the standard high school placement test.  This unique approach to student placement allows each child to grow consistently each year.

The physical development of the student is maintained by a required two years of physical education. All students are encouraged to participate in the many interscholastic athletic programs offered at SCC, including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Last year, approximately 90% of the student body was involved in one or more extracurricular activities.  SCC believes that an involved student is more likely to be successful, developing skills in time management, communication, organization, teamwork and balance. In addition to sports programs, SCC offers a variety of academic clubs, service organizations and spirit groups, which meet the interests of the students as well as supplement classroom learning. Such clubs include Student Council, Beta Club, National Honor Society, SCC Stagehands, Retreat Team, SCC Ambassadors, Creative Writing Club, Art Club and more.

St. Charles Catholic is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, approved by the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Schools and affiliated with the National Catholic Educational Association.
