ST. MARTIN PARISH (May 16, 2022)- The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) has arrested a St. Martinville man and a Youngsville man for allegedly setting fire to one of their vehicles back in February and filing a false stolen vehicle report.
Devonte Kately, 24, was booked in connection with the case on March 18 on one count of Arson with Intent to Defraud.
Kyran Williams, 25, was booked in connection with the case on May 11 on one count of Arson with Intent to Defraud.
In the early morning hours of February 15, the Cade Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a truck fire located in a field in the 1500 block of Duchamp Road in Broussard.
Due to suspicious circumstances, SFM deputies were requested to assist with investigating the origin and cause of the fire. After an assessment of the scene, the fire was determined to have been intentionally set. Deputies then learned the vehicle had been reported stolen hours after it was discovered on fire.
Through extensive investigative efforts, Kately, the owner of the truck, was identified as a suspect in the case and was taken into custody a month after the fire.
Continued, diligent, investigative efforts in collaboration with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office identified Williams as a second suspect in the case. Williams was taken into custody with the assistance of Louisiana State Police on May 11.
The SFM wants to thank the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office for their partnership in closing this case.
