LAPLACE — Brady St. Pierre struck out six as St. Charles Catholic shut out Newman 10-0 in the first game of the LHSAA Division III baseball quarterfinals.
The best-of-three format will pit the Comets against Newman again at noon on Saturday. A win will send St. Charles Catholic to the semifinals against either Notre Dame or Episcopal. A loss in game two would force a third game at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
St. Pierre only allowed one hit from the opposing team across five innings.
The Comets were up by three by the end of the first inning, which included an RBI triple from Jackson Monica.
Ryan Laiche and Ayden Authement each had two RBIs to help the St. Charles Catholic extend the lead. The Comets had three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, and another three in the fifth to end the game.
