Traffic stop yields convicted felon with drugs, gun

On April 22, 2022, Troop B Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a Mercedes Benz on the Earhart Expressway on-ramp from L&A Road in Jefferson Parish. During the course of the traffic stop, Troopers located 240 grams of MDMA (ecstasy) powder and tablets, a marijuana cigarette and a loaded 9mm handgun. Troopers arrested 26-year-old Herbert C. James of New Orleans, who was found to be a convicted felon and actively on parole. James was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Possession With Intent to Distribute Schedule I; Possession of Schedule I; Possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS; Convicted Felon in Possession of a firearm and traffic related charges.
