LAPLACE — An outdoor living space can transform a simple plot of grass into a backyard oasis where memories are made. Having that space has become even more paramount during the COVID-19 pandemic and with people working from home more than ever, according to Paul Caronna, owner of Sequoia Outdoor Supply.

Sequoia will be a featured vendor at the 65th anniversary New Orleans Home and Garden Show, scheduled for March 11-13 at the Superdome. Returning after a two-year hiatus, the expo highlights hundreds of home and garden vendors with product demonstrations, seminars and workshops.

Sequoia Outdoor Supply has been based at 4717 Airline Drive in Metairie since 2010. What began as an outdoor deck and fence store grew to include pergolas and pavilions. Now, Sequoia is evolving into a complete outdoor living supply establishment with future plans to expand into the River Parishes, the Northshore, and along the Gulf Coast.

Lumber, fencing, pavilion/pergola kits, outdoor kitchens/furniture, hardware and swing kits are just a few examples of what Sequoia offers to homeowners and contractors across the region. While the company also offers job-site deliveries, Caronna said Sequoia has always been open to the public as a one-stop-shop for outdoor DIY projects.

“It’s important to have a place where you can go to spend time with your families and build memories in your backyard, which is what we strive to help people do,” Caronna said.

Those who visit Sequoia’s display at the New Orleans Home and Garden Show this weekend will be able to sign up for multiple giveaways, including a beautiful 12×16 garden pergola.

In addition to a selection of pergolas and pavilions, Sequoia will also showcase its outdoor kitchen merchandise and design capabilities. The company represents several outdoor kitchen appliance manufacturers and has an on-staff architect who lays the groundwork to bring designs from concept to reality.

The Home and Garden show will also feature composite decking, fencing and tile pavers, as well as Sequoia’s outdoor seafood boiling and cooking appliances. According to Caronna, the company has a new line of Sequoia Originals including bed swings, high-end planter boxes, and one-of-a-kind outdoor kitchen islands designed specifically to fit Big Green Egg grills.

Caronna said Sequoia Outdoor Supply stands apart from other outdoor retailers in exceptional customer service and superior building products.

“Maybe you want to build a special patio cover for the back of your house, and you really want it to shine and look good. You can come to us, we’ll help you design it. We’ll spec it out for you, make sure all the lumber is cut for you, and we’ll deliver it to your house,” Caronna said.

According to Caronna, pergola and pavilion kits are especially popular for DIY’ers because they are pre-cut and come with all of the materials and hardware needed to get the job done.

Sequoia’s store hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
