The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced that the Gulf of Mexico recreational gray triggerfish season will open concurrently with federal waters on Sunday, August 1.

Opening day of gray triggerfish season coincides with an open season day for red snapper, therefore giving anglers the opportunity to harvest both red snapper and gray triggerfish for one day this weekend – Sunday. In addition, anglers will have the opportunity to harvest both species for subsequent three-day weekends (Friday Saturday and Sunday) during red snapper season.

The size limit for gray triggerfish is 15 inches minimum fork length. The bag limit for gray triggerfish is one per person per day within the 20 reef fish aggregate. Aggregate bag limits can be found at www.wlf.louisiana.gov/page/recreational-saltwater-finfish

LDWF will monitor federal actions regarding the closure of the gray triggerfish season and will close concurrently with federal waters which is scheduled for October 25.
