The Summer Reading Program is coming to an end for St. John the Baptist Parish Libraries. This upcoming week, each library branch will be hosting an event to celebrate. “Finding Nemo,” an interactive movie experience, will be held on Monday, July 26 at the Frazee-Harris Memorial Library (Garyville), Tuesday, July 27 at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library (Reserve), Wednesday, July 28 at the Roland Borne, Sr. Memorial Library (Edgard), and Thursday, July 29 at the Norris J. Millet, Sr. Library (LaPlace). Families are encouraged to attend. Please remember to bring chairs and blankets, as the movie will be shown on the outside lawn. When completed, prizes will be given to participants. A “Back-to-School” event will be held on Tuesday, August 3 at 5 p.m. Patrons are welcome to attend to learn about the resources and databases that our library system has to offer to students. Our children’s librarian, Trina Smith, will host “Story Times,” as well as a back-to-school event titled “Around the Library in 180 Days.” Children, ages 5 and up, will receive a passport and be asked to read books from different genres for a chance to receive a grand prize. Teens are invited to join our “Creative Writing Club” on Wednesday, August 11 at 4 p.m. and also attend our “Keep Calm and Meme a T-Shirt” event on Tuesday, August 17 at 5:30 p.m. “Computer Classes” will also be hosted every Wednesday at 2 p.m. for patrons of all ages. Please call 985-652-6857 to schedule.
The Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library will host “Walking for Your Health” every Thursday at 10 a.m. for adult patrons. Patrons are invited to view our “Quick and Easy Meals” tutorial on social media. Tips on using an air fryer to make simple, but filling meals will be shared. Children, ages 5 and up are invited to make “Personalized Pencil Bags” on Thursday, August 5 at 5 p.m. For more information, please call 985-536-4107.
