Norco, La – The Department of Public Works announced drainage improvement work affecting the south side of Fifth St. from Engineers Canal to Spruce St. in Norco beginning on Monday, July 19.

Construction will involve removing and replacing an existing waterline and installing new, upsized 54-inch culverts and catch basins.  Parts of Fifth St. are to be temporarily closed to thru traffic until completion.

Work will begin at Engineers Canal to limit immediate traffic impacts, and parts of Fifth St. will be temporarily closed to thru traffic until completion.  The Department of Public Works is working with the St. Charles Parish School Board on future traffic coordination.

Emergency services and those living within the affected area will still be allowed to use Fifth St. However, all other residents and visitors should avoid unnecessary traveling between Spruce St. and West Pine St. for the project’s duration. All motorists should adhere to traffic signs in the area for the safety of the workers and the public.

The project totaling $1.2M will be led by Byron E. Talbot Contractor, Inc. (Talbot) and is expected to take six months, weather permitting.
