Sheriff Champagne announces an update in the shooting investigation from July 11, 2021 on
Interstate 310.

During the early morning hours of July 11, 2021 deputies of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s
Office responded to a shooting that occurred on South Bound Interstate 310 near Airline Highway
in St. Rose, Louisiana. During the investigation, detectives learned that two subjects that were
inside of a white colored Dodge Durango SUV sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to
University Medical Center for treatment.

One subject, an 18-year-old male that resides in Vacherie, LA, was treated for a gunshot wound to
his back and was released from the hospital a short time later. The second subject, Dovante
Mitchell, a 25-year-old male from Edgard, LA, sustained a much more severe injury from the
gunshot and succumbed to his injury while at the hospital, several hours after the incident
occurred.

The S.C.S.O. Detective Bureau is working tirelessly to investigate this homicide. It is believed
that the victims were commuting through St. Charles Parish from New Orleans to St. John and St.
James Parishes when the shooting occurred on the elevated portion of Interstate 310 in St. Rose,
Louisiana.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting on Interstate 310
South Bound.

On Sunday July 11, 2021 shortly after 3:30 a.m., the S.C.S.O. 911 center received multiple calls
in reference to an incident on Interstate 310 South Bound in St. Rose, La. Deputies arrived on
scene and discovered a white colored Dodge Durango sports utility vehicle located in the roadway
with two gunshot victims, near the section of 310 that crosses over Airline Highway/US 61.

Life saving measures were immediately administered and with the assistance of St. Charles Parish
Emergency Medical Services, the patients were transported to University Medical Center for
treatment.

Although the vehicle occupied by the injured victims was located on Interstate 310, investigators
are still attempting to determine the actual location of where the incident took place.
