LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish is advertising for bids for the Airline and Main Complete Streets project.
Sealed bids are being accepted through 9:45 a.m. August 5 and will be opened and read aloud at 10 a.m. in the Parish Council Chambers at 1811 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace.
Bidding documents may be viewed online at www.centralbidding.com and at www.sjbparish.com. Questions should be submitted to Peter Montz by email at p.montz@stjohnla.gov by 9:45 a.m. on July 27.
The LA SAFE Airline and Main Complete Streets project is intended to beautify the community while implementing stormwater management features for a resilient future. These features aim to drive future development in LaPlace into an area with low flood risk.
The project will incorporate cyclist paths, a green median and shade trees, and green infrastructure components to manage rain run-off down a 1.3-mile stretch of Airline Highway between Tiffany Drive and Main Street. Improvements will continue down the 0.3-mile corridor of Main Street toward the Mississippi River.
The public had input on this process in a series of public meetings in 2017. Pat Forbes, executive director of the Office of Community Development, said National Disaster Resilience funding associated with this project must be used by September 2023.
