St. John Legends Track Club athletes qualify for Junior Olympics

LAPLACE — The St. John Legends Track Club recently completed in the Region 11 national qualifier. Several young athletes earned the right to compete in the Junior Olympics in Humble, Texas, near Houston.
On the girls’ side, Chani Cammon qualified in long and high jump as well as the 80-meter hurdles in 12-year-old division. Her sister, Ciera Cammon, qualified in the triple and high jump, and Za’nya White also qualified in the triple and high jump in the 14-year-old division.
In the 15/16-year-old division, Zhanell Francois qualified in long and triple jump, Aja Creecy qualified in javelin and discus, and Kharma Creecy qualified in shot put. Anya Creecy qualified in discus in the 17/18-year-old division.
On the boys’ side, qualifying in the 100, 200 and 400 in the 9-year-old group was Dedrick Singleton. Qualifying in the 10-year-old group was long jumper Kohen Lockett, and in 11-year-old group in the 100 and 400 was Terence Connor. Qualifying in the 15/16-year-old age group in 400-meter hurdles was Day’vonne Gilbert, and qualifying in 17/18-year-old age group in the 300 was Devion Devare.
Other noteworthy performances were put in by Taelyn, Trinity and Trevor Smith, Lauryn Lewis, Zykiya Dorsey, Lyric Williams and Kingdavid Singleton.
