Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

St. John the Baptist Parish Library System’s Summer Reading Program is in full swing.  There have been crafts, story times and a performance done at each library branch for patrons of all ages.  The program will continue throughout the month of July, with more one -of-a-kind activities.

Trina Smith, our Children’s Librarian, will continue to host programs weekly based on the “Tails and Tales” theme at the Central Library.  The programs will consist of Story Times, Grab and Go Kits and STEM activities for children of all ages.  Teens can enjoy a “Virtual Game Night” on Tuesday, July 13 at 6 p.m. through the Zoom app.  They can also create a DIY Disco Ball during our “Smart Art” program that will be hosted on Facebook.  Our monthly “Make Shoppe” will also be held.  Please call or email Rona Joseph at 985-652-6857, ext. 1502 or rjoseph@stjohn.lib.la.us for more information about this program.

The Reserve Library will have a visit from St. John Parish Fire Department on Thursday, July 8 at 10:30 a.m.  Safety skills will be demonstrated by firefighters and children will be able to tour the fire truck.  “Walking for Your Health” will be hosted on Thursday, July 22 at 10 a.m.  Studies confirm that walking benefits moods by releasing natural endorphins, so join the Reserve Library for 30 minutes of walking to reduce stress and increase your self-esteem.  Story Times, Grab and Go Kits, Animal Based Crafts and a Variety of Crawfish Recipes will also be available at the Reserve Library.

Grab and go kits can be picked up from the Garyville Library to make “Fourth of July Fortune Tellers” and “Summer Olympic Torches.” “Summertime Science” projects will be hosted for the third and fifth Thursday in July.  Children, along with their parents are welcome to attend.  On Saturday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., children will be able to drop in and play some sidewalk games and draw their own using homemade chalk.  Patrons can register for programs by calling 985-536-4107.

Patrons of all ages are invited to create a “Personalized Calendar” using photos and selfies at the Edgard Library.  The program will be hosted on Wednesday, July 7 through Friday, July 9.  Children are invited to create their own animal using supplies provided and use their imagination to tell their own tale.  This “Animal Creating” program will be held every Monday in July.  Movie Days, Story Times, Grab and Go Craft Kits and so much more will be offered.

There will be a multitude of other programs hosted at each library branch throughout the month.  For a full list of all programs, please refer to our online calendar on our website (www.stjohnlib.com), Facebook (St. John the Baptist Parish Library), or pick up a newsletter at any of our branches.  Parents, please bring your children to the libraries to sign them up to be a part of the Summer Reading Program or check out our website to register.  Enjoy the events virtually and come out to participate in our festivities.
