SCC grads earn LHSAA scholarships

LAPLACE — St. Charles Catholic is happy to share that two recent graduates, Riley Monica and Duncan Lowry, have been awarded $1,000 each as part of the LHSAA Scholarship Awards.
To qualify for this award, students must be the children or in the guardianship of LHSAA members in good-standing for five or more years, and they must submit an essay with their formal application.
Riley Monica, daughter of Ty and Dennille Monica, served as the captain of the cheerleaders during the 2020-2021 school year after participating in the team for four years. She was an active honors student, serving as a Comet Ambassador, Retreat Team Leader, National Honor Society Member and Fellowship of Christian Athletes Member. She plans to attend Nicholls and major in business.
Her father, Ty Monica, has been an assistant football coach for 19 years, and he has served as the head coach for softball for 14 years with SCC. Her younger brothers, Jackson and Brooks, are both current Comets.
Duncan Lowry, son of Tricia and the late David Lowry, has been a competitive swimmer at SCC for five years, qualifying for state and metro meets. He also served as a Student Council Class Representative and a Retreat Team Leader. He plans to attend Delgado Community College in the fall. His mother, Tricia Lowry, has coached for 18 years at SCC: assistant coach in volleyball & basketball for 10 years, swim assistant for six years, and head coach in volleyball for two years. David Lowry served as athletic director and assistant baseball and head softball coach for 10 years. Duncan has three older siblings who are Comet Alumni: Kaitlyn Lowry, Hannah Lowry and Trey Lowry, who won this same award last year. His younger siblings, Hunter and Aidan, are current Comets.
