On last week, John Charlet of 963 Hwy 20 Thibodaux, LA., age 78, pled guilty to Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile (3 counts). Charlet was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following multiple allegations of sexual abuse committed by Charlet over an extended period of time.

In July of 2019, St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives received information indicating that John Charlet had inappropriate contact with three children under the age of thirteen between years 2017 and 2019. Detectives and forensic examiners conducted interviews with the children who gave detailed accounts of the events. Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Charlet who was subsequently apprehended and booked into the St. James Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. Sentencing is tentatively set for October 5, 2021. Charlet faces up to 25 years in state prison on each count and must register and notify as a sex offender or child predator.
