Jefferson Parish – On June 16, 2021 around 11 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were working in a roadway construction zone on US 61 near Industry Road in Kenner, LA. A fully marked Louisiana State Police unit was in the left lane with the emergency lights activated. The LSP unit was behind several construction vehicles, who also had emergency lights activated to include an illuminated directional arrow. An impaired driver approached the construction zone and crashed into the rear of the State Police unit. No injuries were sustained as a result of the crash. Troopers placed the impaired driver under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Operation.
Troopers urge citizens to remember that Louisiana’s “Move Over” law keeps EVERYONE safe. The “Move Over” requirement applies not only to first responders such as law enforcement, ambulance, and fire/rescue crews, but also to highway workers, tow and recovery truck operators, and any vehicle utilizing hazard/warning lights. Please MOVE OVER to keep them safe!
Motorists can report any hazardous situation or impaired driver to the nearest Troop by dialing *LSP (*577) from a cellular phone, or 911 to your local law enforcement agency.
