New state law strengthens state’s financial security

BATON ROUGE, LA. – State Treasurer John M. Schroder announced today the creation of a new state law requiring every state agency to craft a cybersecurity plan relative to cash management by the end of summer.
House Bill 128 was signed into law last week. The bill, which was authored by state Rep. Jerome “Zee” Zeringue, requires state agencies to submit a cybersecurity plan and financial security procedures to the Cash Management Review Board within 90 days for review.
“With the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline and other attacks, we’ve seen how devastating cybersecurity threats can be. We have measures in place already, but we can always improve on them,” said Treasurer Schroder. “This new law will ensure that we stay vigilant.”
“We need consistent measures to protect banking systems within our state agencies. Simply put, we want to make sure everyone’s on the same page,” said Rep. Zeringue. “We’ve created a structure that will ensure the proper security measures are in place.”
