New Orleans’ own Garden District Productions is pleased to announced that its locally shot short film Garden District  continues to be recognized internationally.  The New Orleans shot film is a Short Film Award Finalist at the Berlin Shorts Awards.  The film was also accepted into the Madrid International Film Festival which will be held virtually August  23-27 from Madrid.
Garden District  previously won Best Short Film at the 2021 London International Film Festival, held virtually last month from London.  During the ceremony, Bryan Batt and Barret O’Brien were awarded Best Lead Actors in a Short Film (London International Film Festival Winners) for their roles in Garden District.
We are so proud of the amazing cast and crew of Garden District for continuing to receive these prestigious international honors,” said Garden District creator Rosary O’Neill. “This film was written to celebrate New Orleans and all of its eccentricities and the stellar local cast really deserve this recognition.”
Garden District is a short film created as a sizzle reel for a future potential television series.  It was created in the New Orleans Garden District by local cast and crew and focuses on the life of a New Orleans family. The story tells the tale of New Orleans matriarch, Irene Dubonnet Crawford, who struggles with balancing her love for her dysfunctional adult children and the direction in which their lives have gone. It is a constant tug of war with her artist-son (played by Bryan Batt), writer-daughter, shady son-in-law, and actress-stepdaughter. The recent sudden death of her husband catapults Irene in having to select who will inherit the Dubonnet family millions within a year.
The film was written by local theater mainstay Rosary O’Neill and directed by Oley Sassone.  It stars Bryan Batt as Rooster Dubonnet, Barret O’Brien as Quint Levitt, and Janet Shea as Irene Dubonnet. Additional featured cast includes: Kelly Lind as Kitten Levitt, Sheri Eakin as Jasmine Dubonnet, Carl Palmer as Clovis Debango, and Dari Lynn Grifin as Ella.
Producers include Rory O’Neill Schmitt, Rachelle O’Brien Geerds, Allison Musso, Jennifer Zoe Taylor, Michelle Dumont, Kelly Lind, Rosary O’Neill, and Oley Sassone.
Members of the media are invited to view the film.  Please contact Rachelle O’Brien  at (504)250-0576.
