LAPLACE — The Knights of Columbus Ascension of Our Lord Council 9623 was awarded the State Deputy’s Award at the recent Louisiana State Convention. This award designates Council 9623 as the No. 1 Knights of Columbus Council out of all the councils in the state of Louisiana.

Council 9623 has been awarded as the No. 1 council for nine out of the last 11 years.

The State Deputy’s award recognizes outstanding achievement in membership, insurance promotion, programs, support of State fundraising programs, participation, administration and overall operations.

Earning the State Deputy’s Award is the marker of a high performing council, and the goal to which every council in the State of Louisiana should strive to achieve.

Every council in Louisiana has the opportunity to earn the Louisiana State Deputy’s Award. Council 9623 was also named third place in the state of Louisiana, for contributions to the Knights of Columbus Youth Expansion Program.

This is given out to Knights of Columbus Councils, regardless of council size.

In other Council 9623 news, the Knights of Columbus Ascension of Our Lord Council recently awarded the Father Benjamin Piovan Memorial Scholarship winners. The program was funded by proceeds from the recent Lenten Fish Fry Program.

The scholarships are awarded to second through seventh graders from the Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School to further their education at St Charles Catholic High School in the eighth grade.

Applications are filled out by the seventh graders, and reviewed and judged to determine a winner.

The two seventh graders with the highest scores will receive the scholarships for tuition costs. This year’s winners are Bailey Torres and Mary Grace Connor.
