STEM learning continues with virtual sessions

LAPLACE — Registration is now open for STEM NOLA Virtual STEM Saturday, taking place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 16. This instructor-led virtual event is open to families anywhere. Kits accompanying the STEM Saturday project can be picked up from a STEM NOLA distribution location or shipped for a small fee.

In this STEM Saturday session, participating students will learn about the respiratory system and build their own model lungs. By the end of the session, students will be able to explain the importance of the lungs and describe how they work.

All required materials will be provided in STEM NOLA Kits except for a computer and Wi-Fi. Prior to the start of the session, Zoom video conferencing will also need to be downloaded to the computer (choose the Zoom client for Meetings option).

STEM NOLA @Home also has upcoming live sessions powered by AT&T. The next live event, titled “Environmental Science,” will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14. “Adaptations” will be live at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21. St. John the Baptist Parish has partnered with STEM NOLA to hold STEM Saturdays for local children. Virtual STEM St. John events have been held since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
