LAPLACE — East St. John’s Jackie Marshall recently committed to Baylor University during an early signing period.
The 6-foot, 2-inch linebacker from LaPlace helped lead his team to an impressive 8-2 record as a senior. He’s a two-time first team all-district honoree with 70 tackles and 24 tackles for loss recorded in 2020. Marshall also rushed 22 times for 117 yards and two scores and returned one kick-off 72 yards for a touchdown.
ESPN and 247 sports each ranked Marshall in the top 20 linebackers in the state of Louisiana.
Baylor head coach Dave Aranda said he loved watching Marshall’s tape.
“There’s a physicality and a fierceness that’s pretty primal. Anytime you get that on defense, you want to find various ways to unleash that. . . . When we get in a five-man front, he gives us a great amount of flexibility.”
