Thibodaux Regional Health System Receives COVID-19 Vaccine
Thibodaux, Louisiana- December 16, 2020 – Thibodaux Regional Health System received its first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine today. Thibodaux Regional will follow the state’s guidelines for prioritization of administering the vaccine to the highest priority group, which includes hospital personnel with direct patient contact. The vaccine will be released in phases, with the public anticipated to receive the vaccine in spring/summer 2021.
The COVID vaccine has been approved for emergency use and has been determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be safe and effective. The vaccine produces an immune response in the body helping it to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. The goal of vaccination is to safely achieve herd immunity where a percentage of people have protection either from previous infection or vaccination that it is unlikely a virus or bacteria can spread and cause disease.
“As the region’s healthcare leader, Thibodaux Regional has remained focused and vigilant,” said Greg Stock, CEO Thibodaux Regional. “We appreciate the many efforts of our staff and physicians who have anticipated and responded to changes brought on by the pandemic.”
“Thibodaux Regional is committed to the safety of our staff and patients,” continued Stock. “We are optimistic about the vaccine, and are executing our plan in administering the vaccine in a timely and safe manner.”
In addition to the vaccine, individuals should continue to wash hands often, wear a mask and practice social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
