During the afternoon hours of November 15, 2020, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office received a medical emergency call on the Westbank pertaining to a 6-month-old male infant not breathing. Life saving measures were performed, but were unsuccessful. During an autopsy, the death of the infant was ruled a homicide.

Through an in-depth and still ongoing investigation, sufficient evidence was obtained to request an arrest warrant in relation to First Degree Murder, which was granted by the 29th Judicial District Court Honorable Judge Connie Aucoin.

On November 16, 2020, a 12-year-old female sibling of the deceased infant was arrested and charged with Louisiana Revised Statute 14:30 (First Degree Murder). The arrestee was transported to a juvenile housing facility pending further court proceedings.

St. Charles Sheriff Champagne said, “This is an horrific and tragic situation. The homicide did not involve the use of a dangerous weapon. Due to sensitivity of both the victim and suspect being juveniles, we are unable to comment any further. We have been in constant contact with the 29th Judicial District Attorney’s Office throughout the course of this investigation.”

At this current time, we are not holding any press conferences or conducting any media interviews.
