This year that rough English translation of a sentence by the Latin poet Horace has both a political and legislative meaning. The heavily Republican Louisiana Legislature essentially failed to solve a major problem – finding way to bring the unemployment trust fund out of bankruptcy.
Instead they did what they always do:
They created a Study Commission.
They’re really banking on Congress to be their Fairy Godmother again.
Congress, of course, has the power to wave its wand and create money out of thin air. They’ve done it for decades regardless of majority party. National debt already reached 100 percent of GDP. What’s another trilllion or two?
