LAPLACE — When COVID-19 put a halt to quarterly advisory meetings and a Spring client event, the team at Schexnayder Wealth Advisors found a new way to stay connected to the community.

The new “Red Beans & Advice” podcast gives listeners a taste of wealth management topics by providing clear answers to complex questions. New episodes are released on Mondays once a month. Mondays are traditionally known as red beans and rice days in Louisiana, so it seemed appropriate to start the week serving Red Beans & Advice as well.

Katy Hane, associate broker for Schexnayder Wealth management, said the podcast is a new innovative way to break down important topics while introducing the public to the wealth management services offered in the community.

Three episodes have been released thus far, focusing predominantly on individual retirement accounts. Hane said breaking down topics related to retirement, life insurance and investment can benefit people at any stage of life.

“We hit the ground running, ordered some microphones and got prepped. Once we thought of the name, it was very much solidified that we’re doing this,” Hane said.

“We cover serious topics in a fun way. We want people to be knowledgeable and we want them to learn, but we also want them to have a fun and enjoyable podcast to listen to.”

Hane is interested in personal finance because she’s seen what can happen to families that aren’t prepared for big medical emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances. She knows that failure to plan can lead to hardship down the road.

According to Hane, even young people should be aware that there will likely come a time in their lives when they are unable to work. Schexnayder Wealth Advisors’ investment management services begin with conversations about personal goals. This allows advisors to create an investment strategy that aligns with individual requirements and risk tolerance.

Eight critical wealth management issues are used to make a customized framework: cash-flow and debt management, family risk management, retirement planning, education planning for a child’s post high school education, legacy and estate planning, business planning and planning for special situations.

Through their affiliation with Avantax, owner/senior advisor Nolan Schexnayder and advisor Jesse Duhon offer assistance with numerous types of investments and insurances.

Schexnayder Wealth Advisors can continue helping an individual after he or she retires.

“Once you’re in retirement, it’s about making sure you’re not outpacing your money,” Hane said. “We’re very good at scaling from the younger generation to the older generation. We understand and can see everyone’s viewpoints. With us being at different stages of our lives, it helps us bring those perspectives and views.”
