LAPLACE — The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division held orientation last week to acquaint new officers with the SJSO’s policy and procedures and assist them in making the transition from what they learned in the police academy to performing general law enforcement duties competently in the field.
Veteran officers led classes on a variety of patrol duties such as responding to calls for service and investigating complaints, disturbances and collisions; writing reports; and observing for law violations, writing citations, directing traffic and escorting convoys.
Training is key for officers to perform their duties in an ethical and professional manner, Sheriff Mike Tregre said, and orientation provides new recruits with the information they need to work comfortably, efficiently, and effectively.
