My almost 2-year-old granddaughter, Caroline, loves to eat! She was most recently seen climbing onto her great-grandfather’s lap and leaving only after she had finished eating the fried fish from his plate.
A couple of days prior, as her mother, Monique, was unwrapping candy, Caroline started smiling and clapping her hands and said, “It’s gonna be good!” What anticipation!
Caroline trusts Monique, and Monique would never serve Caroline anything that wasn’t good – or anything that Monique hadn’t tasted.
Watching the interaction brought Psalm 34:8 to mind. David wrote, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”
Because he had experienced the goodness, deliverance, and provision of God repeatedly, David issued the invitation like a confident chef who knows that one taste would have people desiring more.
I want to have a growing appetite for God’s Word and His Ways. I’ve found that the more I read the Bible and pray, the more rewarding those practices become.
As Caroline and her cousins grow, I pray their lives will reflect the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”The anticipation of their future has me smiling and clapping my hands and saying, “It’s gonna be good!”
