VFW is feeding first responders

LAPLACE – The LaPlace VFW Post 3337 will feed St. John the Baptist Parish first responders, military and healthcare workers starting at noon on Friday.

Pre-packaged lunch plates containing barbecue chicken, baked beans and corn will be distributed in a drive-thru format the VFW Post 3337 parking lot, located at 205 W. Fifth Street in LaPlace.

Post 3337 is also delivering 50 meals to the medical staff at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home and 20 meals to the VA Clinic on Friday.

Wesley Mitchell of Sarge’s Mobile Smoke House is preparing the lunches. Mitchell said it has always been important to him to support the police, firefighterS, emergency responders and military men and women who Put their lives on the line for the wellbeing of others.

“I have friends who are in law enforcement. Some of them go out and do their jobs, and then they come home and have to strip down in the garage. Some of them are even having to stay away from their family at this time,” Mitchell said.

As a veteran, Mitchell understands the hardships hometown heroes face, and he looks for any opportunity to give back.
