SCC girls end playoff run in quarterfinals

COVINGTON β€” The St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets ended their season Thursday night in the quarterfinal round of the Division III girls basketball playoffs with a 67-42 loss to Northlake Christian in Covington.

Two SCC starters got into foul trouble early on, and the girls struggled to recover as Northlake Christian jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter.

The Lady Comets closed the gap in the second quarter, even outscoring the Lady Wolverines 17-16 at one point. By the third quarter, Northlake Christian took control again and ran to a 44-34 lead.

More foul trouble abounded for St. Charles Catholic, and Northlake Christian increased the lead to end the game at 67-42.

Head coach Dawn Gaubert said the girls have worked hard throughout the season, and Thursday night was no exception.

Kaitlyn Abair led in scoring with 24 points.

β€œShe was a constant threat offensively and was huge on the boards for us,” Gaubert said.

Post player Mya Brown remained resilient even while double and triple teamed by the opposition. She ended the game with 12 points.

Alyssa Hooge and Mallory Fernandez added four points each.

Northlake Christian is advancing to the semi-finals to face No. 1 seed St. Thomas Aquinas.
