RESERVE — River Parish Community Theatre recently announced its 2020 summer musical production, Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’. The show will run July 17-19 and 22-25 at St. Peter School in Reserve.
Auditions are open and roles are available for children (ages 8 and up), teens, and adults. RPCT will hold a pre-audition workshop for those interested in the role of Matilda or her classmates (boys and girls ages 8-13) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26. Auditions for all roles will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 30 through Thursday, April 2. The workshop and the auditions will be held at St. Peter School in Reserve.
RPCT board president Sean Roussel said, “Continuing our work to bring fresh, new theatre to the River Parishes, we are thrilled to announce the River Parish premiere of ‘Matilda’. People of all ages love this show and movie, and we cannot wait to put our production together for the community. For five years the community has come the expect the very best in community theatre from RPCT and this year will be no different – local talent, remarkable sets constructed by our own crew, and the usual phenomenal job by our Artistic Director, Darryl P. Clement.”
A winner of 47 international awards, ‘Matilda’ is the story of an extraordinary girl who dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other’s lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!
