Coast Guard search & rescue underway in Mississippi River

LULING — The U.S. Coast Guard Station New Orleans was alerted to a barge collision on the Mississippi River near the Luling Bridge at approximately 5:30 a.m. Sunday. A search and rescue mission is underway to locate three people missing after the  collision.

A response boat and air crew are searching the scene, according to a public affairs representative from the U.S. Coast Guard.

St. Charles Sheriff’s Office and EOC officials are also on scene to search for the missing individuals.

No further information is available at this time. The Coast Guard is expected to issue a press release later today.
