LAPLACE — Detectives with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating a home invasion that occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. Jan. 1 in the 1800 block of Southdown Road in LaPlace. Upon arrival, officers learned a subject wearing a mask entered a residence, held a woman and man at gunpoint and demanded money.

The woman had heard a knock at the side door of the home and assumed it was a relative. When she opened the door, the suspect immediately entered the residence, pointed a gun at the woman and a man inside the home, and demanded money. When the couple told the suspect they had no money, the suspect fled the residence on foot in an unknown direction. A toddler, a juvenile under the age of 12, and another adult female were also inside the residence during the incident. Police said the female and the two children locked themselves inside a bathroom for protection.

No one was injured during the incident.

The victims described the suspect as male, tall, medium build, wearing a black mask, gloves and clothes.
