LAPLACE — Mya Darensbourg of East St. John High School swore into the Louisiana Army National Guard on Dec. 9. In August 2020, she will leave home for Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, where she will go on to become a combat engineer. Following her 14 weeks of training, Darensbourg will be given the choice to attend any public college, university or trade school in Louisiana and have her entire college tuition costs paid for by the Louisiana Army National Guard. She will also receive an addition $13,000 worth of educational incentives.

Family and friends surround Mya Darensbourg to celebrate her commitment to the Louisiana Army National Guard. This opportunity will provide her tuition-free higher education.

“Yesterday marked a great day for Ms. Darensbourg, and her service to this country brings great credit upon her community and East St John High School,” said Staff Sergeant Brad Doucet, recruiter for the Louisiana Army National Guard.
