MANCHAC– The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recently released three ducks onto Manchac Wildlife Management Area following their rehabilitation after being oiled at a refinery near Belle Chasse.
The three black-bellied whistling ducks were safely captured by LDWF’s Oil Spill Response Team then taken to Wildlife Response Services for the rehabilitation process. All three were heavily oiled, and two were emaciated. They are now back to a healthy weight.
The Manchac Wildlife Management Area in St. John the Baptist Parish was chosen for the release due to its favorable habitat and close proximity to the rehabilitation center in Livingston Parish.
