St. James Hospital Supports Diabetes Awareness

LUTCHER — In recognition of Diabetes Awareness Month, St. James Parish Hospital’s free Diabetic Support Group Meeting will have a featured speaker in November.

The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 12 in the Hospital Meeting Room. Diabetics, prediabetics and family members of diabetics are invited to attend.

Lacey St. Pierre, Community Educator at the hospital’s Wound Care Center, will offer a presentation on diabetic wounds. Slow-healing or chronic wounds are a common problem for diabetics that can lead to serious and life-threatening complications. The presentation will be open-ended and attendees will be able to ask questions.

Lacey graduated with a degree in Behavioral Science and has been in the wound care field for over a decade.

In addition, attendees at the meeting will have the option to sign up for a free Foot Screening by Dr. Darek Guichard, Podiatrist on staff at St. James Parish Hospital. Foot Screenings will be first come, first serve on Nov. 14 in the Medical Plaza.
