LAPLACE – The St. Charles Comet fans will definitely be putting off their manicures for a while following the last two weeks of nail-biting football finishes. The Comets remained undefeated with a close call at Lutcher (23 – 21) and a triple overtime victory last week against De La Salle (26 – 23). This week, St. Charles returned home to newly constructed Thomas Dupuy Memorial Stadium to face a familiar foe in the E.D. White Cardinals.
The Comets cruised to a decisive victory over the Cardinals 36 – 0. After the opening kickoff, E.D White threw a pass which the receiver caught and fumbled. SCC linebacker Mandel Eugene scooped up the fumble and ran it in for the touchdown. The Comets added a 2-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.
St. Charles added another score on the first offensive play from scrimmage when junior running back Kennan Gauff took the hand-off off the left side and scurried down the sideline for an 85-yard touchdown run that brought the score to 15-0 in the first quarter.
Junior cornerback Kamren Campbell intercepted a long Cardinal pass to thwart a scoring threat, and Gauff would make them pay with a 52-yard touchdown run to make the score 22-0 at halftime.
On their opening possession of the second half, St. Charles used a heavy dose of the run and capped it off with a 4-yard touchdown run by Junior Quarterback Reid Landeche for the 29- 0 lead. Kennan Gauff scored his third touchdown of the night on a 9-yard run to bring the lead to 36 – 0 at the end of the third quarter. The Comet defense held the Cardinals out of the endzone on a few scoring threats in the fourth quarter to preserve the 36 – 0 shutout.
St. Charles will host (5-A) East Ascension next Friday.
