LAPLACE – Two former St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office corrections deputies suspected of bringing contraband to the parish jail were arrested Thursday by Louisiana State Police Detectives assigned to the Bureau of Investigations.

Hicks, left, Oubre

In early July, the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of LSP Detectives with an internal investigation of one of their corrections officers regarding possible malfeasance in office. After a thorough investigation, Michael Hicks, 27, and Younekie Oubre, 31, were arrested for malfeasance in office and introducing contraband into a penal facility. Hicks and Oubre were booked into the St. John the Baptist Parish Corrections Center without incident.

As detectives continue this investigation, additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming. This is still an active investigation and no further information is available at this time, according to Louisiana State Police.
