LAPLACE —Cardan Davis, 24, of LaPlace was arrested Monday after officers found him carrying approximately 2.5 grams of heroin in his hand.

Patrol deputies observed Davis, who had an active DNA detainer for the St. John Sheriff’s Office, sitting in a driveway of a residence in the 200 block of Elm Street in LaPlace. After officers detained Davis, they observed him clenching an unknown object in his hand. Officers ordered Davis to open his hand, but he refused. As officers attempted to remove the item from Davis’ hand, he began kicking officers. Eventually, Davis was arrested, and officers discovered 11 individually wrapped plastic bags containing about 2.5 grams of heroin.

Davis was booked with possession with intent to distribute heroin and resisting an officer. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $26,500 bond.

Davis has been arrested 10 times in St. John Parish since 2014, including a May 15 arrest for possession with intent to distribute heroin, illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance and possession of marijuana.

On March 22, he was arrested for possession of heroin, possession of crack cocaine, flight from an officer, illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a stolen firearm, and traffic violations.
