Det. Sgt. Shard keeps fraud in check

LAPLACE — Det. Sgt. Michael Shard, lead officer for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division’s Cyber/Financial Crimes Unit, has been elected to the 2019-2020 board of directors of the Louisiana Forgery and Fraud Investigators Association.
He was elected during the LFFIA’s annual conference at the Baton Rouge Marriott.
The LFFIA board is made of officers from various law enforcement agencies and private entities. The LFFIA, a professional non-profit organization, was founded to coordinate efforts of private/public industry, law enforcement personnel and the judicial system in controlling, investigating and prosecuting forgery and fraud offenses encountered by these entities.
It is dedicated to the constant improvement of methods of suppression, detection, arrest and prosecution of forgery and fraud offenders.
Shard is a certified financial crimes investigator, mobile forensics examiner and a member of the U.S. Secret Service/Louisiana Financial/Electronic Crimes Task Force-New Orleans Field Office.
