RESERVE — The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reached out to the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office in February with a tip about an exploited juvenile.

It was believed a 29-year-old was engaging in an inappropriate online relationship with a juvenile.

Through investigation, local detectives identified 29-year-old Reserve resident Akeem Baskin as the suspect. Police also said they were able to identify a juvenile victim.

“Through further investigation detectives learned that Baskin engaged in a sexual relationship with the juvenile victim,” a Sheriff’s Office release said today.

Detectives obtained a judicial warrant, and Baskin was charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He was arrested Thursday.

Baskin, now 30, was assigned a no 10 percent $50,000 bond and transferred Friday to RiverBend Detention Center in Lake Providence.

Jail officials said he was still incarcerated this week.

“Because a juvenile was involved, no other information will be released,” the Sheriff’s office announced this week.
