Senior Services: SJSO looking out for community’s “precious” members

RESERVE — To assist the community’s senior citizens, the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office distributes binders with important information to members of the Sheriff’s Office’s Protecting Our Precious Seniors or POPS program.

Included in the binders are names and telephone numbers of local government agencies and Parish Council members.

POPS officers’ visits also are logged; and brochures on protecting seniors against financial exploitation and personal safety tips are included in the binders.

“Caring for our seniors is an important responsibility, and the SJSO takes this responsibility seriously,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said.
Through POPS, officers are available to assist the community’s elderly residents and disabled adults in need.

Officers make weekly visits to senior citizens or disabled adults in their homes.

They assess each POPS member’s overall condition, as well as his or her living conditions.

The officers also report any concerns the seniors may have to primary caregivers.

If you or someone you know could benefit from POPS, call Lt. Greg Baker, program director, at 985-652-7058 or log onto stjohnsheriff.com/general.php?id=1056.
