LAPLACE — Cpl. Huu Nguyen supervises the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office inmate work crew that provides thousands of hours of community labor each year.

Crew members handle litter removal from public streets, cut grass on medians, set up and take down tables, chairs and tents at community events and landscape for nonprofits.

Major Gordon Jeffcoat said Nguyen’s efforts inspire and support the performance and achievement of others.

Nguyen also volunteers his time to take photographs for special events throughout the community.

The St. John Business Association honored that effort, naming Nguyen Officer of the Month during their meeting at Petra’s Restaurant in LaPlace.

Nguyen also carries out additional responsibilities beyond his job assignments for the benefits of the residents of St. John the Baptist Parish, Jeffcoat said.
