VACHERIE — Shortly before 5:30 a.m. Monday, Troopers with Troop C responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana 3127 at Louisiana 3213.

The crash took the life of 21-year-old Christopher Turner Jr.

The preliminary investigation revealed Turner, of Baton Rouge, was traveling west on Louisiana 3213 in a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. Turner reached the intersection with Louisiana 3127 and stopped for a stop sign.

For reasons still under investigation, Turner failed to yield to an oncoming northbound 2008 Dodge Ram being driven on Louisiana 3127 by 58-year-old Michael Steib of Hahnville.

Turner began making a left turn in front of Steib’s vehicle and they collided in the intersection.

Turner sustained fatal injuries and he was pronounced deceased on scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office.

Steib suffered moderate injuries and was taken to River Parishes Hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash; however, a standard toxicology test is pending on the part of Turner through the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office.

Steib submitted a blood sample and a toxicology test is pending through the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Both drivers were properly restrained during the crash.
