LAPLACE — Online raffle entries are a quick and inexpensive way to help the St. John Parish Animal Shelter navigate an unprecedented intake of more than 140 neglected dogs from a single residence.

Community members are stepping up in the Animal Shelter’s time of need to defray costs for the dogs’ medical care and transportation to other rescue groups.

Kevin Reed of LaPlace, owner of Reed’s Pressure Washing Services, is raffling off one free pressure wash for $10 per chance.

The $700 value includes house, sidewalk, driveway and patio pressure washing on a home up to 2,500 square feet.

A winner will be pulled on Feb. 24, and the offer is valid up to 30 days after the winner is notified.

Message Tina Boudreaux Ory through Facebook to enter the raffle or to arrange a drop-off appointment at the Internet Purchase Exchange Zone by Dunkin’ Donuts of LaPlace.

Community members may also call Reed at 504-578-4947 for more information.

Reed previously offered basic, residential and personal protection training for German Shepherds, and he felt compelled to help the Animal Shelter after hearing of January’s mass cruelty rescue in Pleasure Bend.

Most of the dogs seized were hound mixes or full-grown terrier mixes, according to Animal Shelter officials, and all of the dogs previously at the shelter had to be relocated to Jefferson Parish to make room for the massive intake.

Reed reached out to Ory, a former classmate, late last week, knowing her to be a devoted community volunteer for Friends of the St. John Parish Animal Shelter.

Ory is overseeing the pressure wash fundraiser in addition to her own restaurant gift card fundraiser.

She hopes to raise $200 for the St. John Animal Shelter by raffling off one $25 gift card to IHOP, one $25 gift card to Panera Bread and one $25 gift card to Bonefish Grill.

Tickets are on sale through Feb. 22, one chance for $2 or three chances for $5.

For more information, message Tina Boudreaux Ory on Facebook. Ticket sales may be conducted electronically or at the Internet Purchase Exchange Zone in LaPlace, and Ory is open to collecting other donations including bleach wipes, towels and pet supplies in person.

“I think it’s important because our shelter has limited resources and employees,” Ory said. “They appreciate any help that this community can give. They see a lot of people are stepping up to help, but they need help every day in this desperate situation.”
